Questions
The eight things
everyone asks first.
Mostly about bans, groups and where the data sits. Answered the way we would answer them on a call.
Will my WhatsApp number get banned?
Bulk sending is the main cause of bans, so Comsky Chat never bulk-sends over the QR connection. Campaigns and broadcasts run only on the official Cloud API, on a number you have registered with Meta for that purpose, and the product will not let you point a broadcast at a QR-connected number.
Being straight about the rest: connecting by QR is an unofficial route, and no unofficial connection is risk-free. Your QR connection stays what it is meant to be — your team replying to people who wrote to you — which is the use least likely to attract attention.
Do I need the WhatsApp Business API to start?
No. Scan a QR code with the number you already use and the inbox is live. No Meta business verification, no template approval, no per-message fee, no waiting on an application.
You only touch the Cloud API later, if and when you want to run outbound marketing. Then it sits alongside the QR number in the same inbox.
Do WhatsApp groups work?
Yes. Groups arrive in the shared inbox like any other conversation, with @mentions, the participant roster, and admin actions — add, remove, promote, demote, invite links.
This is the clearest split in the market. Tools built only on the Cloud API, Wati among them, cannot do groups at all, because Meta's API does not expose them.
Where is my data stored?
In India. Messages, media and search indexes sit on infrastructure in Indian data centres, with no second copy in a cheaper region.
Tenant separation is enforced by the database itself, so one customer's data is unreadable from another customer's session even if the application gets it wrong.
Can my team see only their own numbers?
Yes. Access is granted per number, so a sales agent on the sales number never sees the accounts number or its history. Roles sit on top of that: owner, admin, manager and agent.
Every assignment, closure, rule change and export is written to an audit trail you can read months later.
Can I use it for my website chat too?
Yes, and it lands in the same inbox rather than a second one. The widget drops into your site or customer portal with one snippet.
If your users are signed in, pass an HMAC user hash and the conversation is tied to a verified identity. One thread list, one team, two channels.
What happens if my phone is off?
The QR connection is a linked device, so it behaves like WhatsApp Web. Recent versions keep working for a while with the phone offline, and when the phone reconnects, anything it received in the meantime syncs through.
The phone is part of the setup — keep it charged and online, the way you would for WhatsApp Web. If it stays offline too long the link lapses and you reconnect by scanning again. Numbers you connect through the official Cloud API do not depend on a phone at all.
How do I move over from another WhatsApp inbox?
Scan the QR with the same number and the inbox starts filling immediately. You can bring up to 90 days of history across with the number. Most teams run both for a week and then stop paying for the old one.
Bring your canned replies as macros and your labels as labels. If you already have an official Cloud API number, our team sets that up with you alongside the QR number. Write to us at comsky.ai/contact and we will do the first setup with you.
